2022 WBIA report: US sales get a flat tire
US sales decreased 17 percent in 2021
Total sales of bicycles and e-bikes in the United States decreased 17 percent to 18.3 million units in 2021 (2020: 41 percent increase). The contraction in sales was due to an 18 percent decrease in sales of bicycles as restrictions and lock downs related to the pandemic were lifted, rising prices of many bicycle types and weak consumer confidence. The sale of e-bikes increased 42 percent (2020: 138 percent) to 420 thousand units but nevertheless accounted for less than 1 percent of total units sales. Growth in e-bike sales slowed substantially due to weaker consumer demand and a higher base of comparison.
