A-D Racing Miami Masters Rosewood Series Race Number Three

Turnout was bigger at Rosewood Series Race Number Three with about thirty riders in the 50 plus category. The venue was the same: the flat one mile course at Central Broward Park in Lauderhill, Florida. Temperatures were mid seventies and the wind was calm. There was a bit more daylight for the eight o’clock start.

The main feature of this race was the high frequency and number of big attacks right from the very start. There were no breaks that stuck, but I went backwards in the field many times and that put me on the defensive.

With two laps to go, there was a lull in the pace. One rider attacked on the inside from the back of the field. He was accelerating as he came by me. I hesitated for a few seconds and saw that no one was going to chase. I went after him. To my surprise, no one chased me.

I did the second to last lap by myself with him just out of reach and a big gap behind me. With probably 400 meters to go on the last lap, the field came blowing by me in a full gas field sprint. However, the field was too far back to catch the rider who was off the front. He won the day. Nice.

Note to self. 1) Two laps to go is a good time to launch a big attack. 2) It is good to be decisive when there is an attack. 3) Don’t go on the defensive just because of a fast pace and many big accelerations. Stay in the race! Unfortunately, I will miss the rest of the series. It has been great racing and good fun to witness the south Florida racing scene. The competition is really strong and it is great experience for criterium racing.
